What’s all this about?
Because of our upcoming Publicity Event, this post will be going to a lot of new people. Therefore, I’m going to summarise what we do, why and how we got here in a few short paragraphs.

How we got to Bus Stop Cafe in Corio
Christine and I are keen to fulfil Jesus’ instruction to make disciples and to bring in the harvest so we’ve been experimenting with mission models here in Corio for nearly six years: Community Tree Planting with a gospel teaching, Family Pizza Nights, Super Sundays, Play Groups and Pop Up Church. But the most effective method is Bus Stop Cafe.
What is Bus Stop Cafe?
We noticed parents parking everyday in the church carpark to pick up their kids from school. Everyday a crowd of parents and children unite right outside the church building at the Bus Stop. So we open up the building and invite the children inside for chocolate milk. We charge 50c or they can get it for free if they do a Jesus-Challenge. Everyday we get between 30-50 people attending and most are doing the Jesus-Challenge. People are becoming warm to Jesus and even saying, “I love Jesus!”

Why focus on outreach?
We notice there is no teaching of Christianity in Victorian government schools anymore and many people in our area have no knowledge of Christianity! We notice church attendance is plummeting in Victoria and our society can be understood as post-Christian and quite anti-God. So we can see a crisis looming. Where will the church be in 10 years?
Also, Jesus calls us to love our neighbours; particularly the lost, the weak and the poor. Corio is an excellent place to find such people and God has given us access to Corio Christian Centre which is an excellent place to form a ministry which is 80% focussed on welcoming unchurched children and families and 20% focussed on discipling those who are coming to Christ.
What’s the best part?
Creating teaching materials and creating Jesus culture. It is such an important responsibility to represent Jesus to unchurched children and an even greater responsibility to disciple them and their families. But it is also so much fun digging deep to communicate the essence of God’s stories and also to create living, breathing culture which encapsulates this essence in all its powerful vibrancy!
What’s the plan for the future?
Create a Community Centre with a heart of Christian hospitality! What a fabulous challenge!
