A Poignant Anecdote!

Today we were teaching that Jesus said, “If you love me, obey my commands”, and a 9yo girl, Jane (not her real name) came up for a chocolate milk as she had completed her challenge.

“Can I do a bonus question?”, she asked.

“Sure” I said, “Jesus said, ‘If you love me, you’ll do what?’”, I asked.

“Obey his commands?”, she replied.

“Correct” I said, then went to question 2. “Do you love Jesus?”

“Yes”, she replied.

“Do you want to obey and follow Jesus?”

“Yes”, she replied

Jane, and a friend she’d brought with her today, got a marshmallow and trotted out. Jane and her sister have never been to church. Bus Stop Cafe is their church. They both have fallen in love with Jesus through this ministry. And their mother, who used to be very against praying with us, is definitely warming to God being active in her life. And I am making friends with their father. It seems God is moving in this family! It’s beautiful to be part of their journey.

Great Start to the Term!

Attendance usually falls after a break, but Term 2 has started with a bang. Over 150 visits in the first week. That’s 50 a day Tues, Wed, Thurs. This term we are teaching Stuff Jesus Said and have distilled 9 simple sentences Jesus taught, one for each week.

It is such a privilege to teach and disciple these unchurched primary school children and their parents. It is such an honour to be entrusted by God to bring them the Word of God. Innocent children. God, purify our work with fire and please gift us with fruit that lasts! This photo shows kids jumping rope without any leader input! This is exactly the sort of thing I think God wants and it’s happening by itself!

Holiday Program Collaboration

God blessed us in early April with a fabulous School Holiday Program with Prison Fellowship. Thirty eight folks came in all which is a fabulous attendance. Two random muslim refugee families dropped in and had a beautiful time. Our regulars often have a family member in prison so they are similar to families linked to Prison Fellowship. So we have decided to do another School Holiday Program together at the end of this term. It was wonderful working with Prison Fellowship because they had more staff, expertise and equipment to make it a very fun and valuable night.

Approval for shade sail and deck

Discerning God’s mind for this ministry is a challenge we take very seriously. We seek the God idea not the good idea. So after a long time of testing and discerning, we have arrived at a moment where our plan to construct a small deck and a large shade sail out the front of Bus Stop Cafe has been approved by Christian Brethren Trust, who own the building.

This means we are committed to finding half the funds for this project. CBT will fund the other half. We are a very small organisation with very limited funds, but we serve a very big God with unlimited power. And he calls us to demonstrate audacious faith. So we are seeking to improve the amenity of the property for the local school children so they can more effectively learn about Jesus. And I’m sure God will provide the funds now the plans are approved. I will seek funding from government and philanthropic sources. Thank you for praying for us to go God’s way. We could not do this without you!

On a Personal Note

Christine’s mother Val has passed into the presence of Jesus and we are about to run the funeral in Warburton. Family members are coming from New Zealand, Queensland and Sydney.

Christine and I also had a few days in Lombok and I also went to Darwin and helped my daughter with baby sitting while she ran a pop up vet clinic at Kakadu for a few days!
