May 2026 – Bus Stop Cafe is 3 years old!

Here is an excerpt from 3 years ago. It describes the results of an “Explorers’ Day” when we decided to launch this ministry:

A group of evangelists got together at the end of Term 1 to see all the action at the bus stop at Corio Christian Centre. It’s a bit like a party already! Every school day about 40 people gather at the church building so we’ve decided to serve them with friendship, games and hospitality. This idea marries with the idea to create a community centre in the building.

Then prophetic people came and said it was time to return the building to the original purpose for which it was created. I was told the generation before us had created a room with vinyl floor and sliding glass doors to be a cafe to engage the local people. Then we were given a coffee machine so we’ve decided to get it all going to serve the locals. We begin our Term 2 pilot project next Tuesday 2 May 2-2023! Every second Tuesday in Term 2 from 2-4pm we’ll gather to give the locals coffee and engage them in fun in Jesus’ name. We see this as the first step in creating a community centre.

Summary of May

Three years later we are going strong and believe God wants us to continue just as we are for more years. We average 50 visits per day and each child is learning more each day about Jesus. This term we focus on “Stuff Jesus Said”, for example: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and love your neighbour as yourself.” Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the children flock in and now they are jumping rope and drawing with chalk without needing our input. I’m sorry I don’t have any photos this month. It’s hard because we’re not supposed to photograph the children and also we’re very busy.

VIP Guests

This month we had a visit from Jonny Kettle, the senior pastor of Grace Church Geelong. Also Brian and Patricia Hall visited for a few days. Brian and Pat are Angus’ ‘spiritual parents’ so it was lovely to share this amazing ministry with such important friends.

A colourful testimony

Covered with tattoos and attached to an ex-con, Ann is very unlikely to attend church. However she felt right at home at Bus Stop Cafe except when we started to pray. Then she would up and leave without even a good bye. Over the years however, her children have fallen in love with Jesus and love coming three days a week to learn more about their Lord and Saviour. Now Ann has changed quite a lot too. She is very happy for us to pray about the issues in her life and she is seeing God move in the areas where we’ve prayed. Yesterday, Christine asked Ann to pray on her own!

Future Plans

Thank you for praying as God is giving us increased faith to believe for His way forward. We have a deep settledness about the future of Bus Stop Cafe because of the witness from the Holy Spirit. We continue to pray for ‘hyper-yield’, extreme kingdom fruitfulness. We believe God wants us to continue this amazing ministry and to make disciples of the children who attend.
