Holiday Update
Christine and I travelled to see family in New Zealand and Darwin respectively in January and then hosted a School Holiday Program late in the month. Our closest friends came and we played UNO and gave loads of parenting advice to the young mums!
Christine’s mum has deteriorated physically and we visited her several times in Healsville Hospital in the month. She will be going into care now as she’s too hard to look after at home.
I had a lovely time with my granddaughter, daughter and son in law in Darwin getting lots of gardening done.
We started Bus Stop Cafe with 30 children coming in, renewing friendships, doing a Jesus Challenge and getting a chocolate milk. In Term 1 our theme is “People Jesus Met”.
Trusting God for a New Season
As we think about the goals for this year, it seems God is again confining us to simply teaching kids about Jesus and discipling those who will be discipled. Which is a beautiful thing. I thank you for praying about how we discern God’s will for us that we might grow and teach more kids about Jesus.
It feels as though God is saying, this is enough. Don’t be concerned with growing, recruiting new workers, fundraising etc, as He will provide for His ministry. My reading of God’s heroes is that they are confident of God’s provision. Hudson Taylor would say, “I proved God in London. I proved God in China.” What he meant was that God leads and provides when we step out in faith to love Him and love our neighbours.
It feels strange to be scaling back my attitude and resting. But this is what we’re doing now. Christine and I can host 50 children on our own and we will be content with that and we’ll be content to train and nurture the new workers God provides. But in all things we will be confident that God will provide as we teach kids about Jesus and make disciples.
Not only that, as I pray and seek the Lord, I get a sense of a wave of revival coming. God won’t just provide, He’ll provide abundantly.
