It might sound obvious, but I feel God is challenging me to minister to the individual children who come to Bus Stop Cafe. Honestly I’ve never been very good at this, but I’m sure God wants me to focus on it so I’ve been intentionally formulating questions and ways to extend the Bible stories to be personally relevant and challenging for the children. And it’s working. They’re being discipled!
An example. We’re teaching about the Kingdom of God being like buried treasure or a fine pearl. I’ll ask, “What is Jesus teaching us about the Kingdom of God?” They might say, “That it’s valuable?” and so I’ll say, “Yes and that means we need to put the Kingdom of God as the highest priority in our lives.” I’m so grateful that God is leading us as we serve the local community.
Garden Overhaul
We’ve removed the old weedmat and plants and planted around 150 native grasses and ground covers. It is looking so much better already and the weather has been very favourable for growing tube stock. A thick layer of mulch will complete the look and make it suitable as a native garden kids can play in. We’ll get some large logs for ‘play equipment’ soon too.
A Connection with Geelong Baptist College
The Chaplain from Geelong Baptist College reached out to explore a partnership. Christine and I visited and we’ve struck a deal: Year 7 & 8 students from Geelong Baptist College are coming to experience Bus Stop Cafe in December as part of their Christian Living subject with the focus on “Loving our Local Community”. We’re expecting a bus load (about 35-40) and we’ll run them through our normal program: “Jesus Challenge = Chocolate Milk” and then we’ll lead them through how this relates to Jesus’ command to “Love God and love your neighbour.” There is a lot of potential in this relationship so please pray for God’s best plans to be established long term.
We’ve finally joined AMT
AMT (Australian’s in Mission Together) is a group which coordinates funding for mission in Australia. We had a bit of trouble joining because we started Little Miracles in 2019 on our own, just Christine and I. AMT likes mission to be birthed from a church so that set back our joining for some time. Anyway, praise God! We will be included in their Daily Prayer Guide which will be great: prayer support and likely funding.
Christine’s mum is 93 years old
She’s just come home after being in hospital and rehab for 4 weeks. Now someone needs to be with her almost all the time to help her with the toilet etc. This means a lot of stress for Christine. She will be going up to Warburton to stay with her mother several nights a week for the next few months.
Drumming at Grace Church Geelong
It seems God has moved regarding my drum playing. We closed our rock band The Jokers after our guitarist had a stroke and instead I applied to play drums at Grace Church Geelong. I was recently accepted and now I have 4 gigs booked playing in the Sunday service! I’m equally excited, scared and wrapt. I also went to the Geelong Show to serve as an evangelist at the Jesus stand. I worked with the children explaining how they can live their lives with Jesus at the centre!
